There we go... on the road again... to meet the Kesaj Tchavé friends!
This time we don't go there on bike... we do not have a month ahead... No, Johann comes by plane with Jean-michel, photographe and Alan, musician.
End of november, roads and trees are icy.
I choose the secondary roads, and criss crossing from Slovenia to Hongrie, and Slovakia: the natural parc "Slovak paradise", final destination, Kezmarok!

Crossing the Danube.
Thinking of our crazy challenge last, by bike with Johann from France to Slovakia. http://www.yepce.fr/rennes-kezmarok/ We went in May, but rain was our most devoted compagnon, but nevertheless, we made it! The last day seing the white Tatri Mountains we knew we had done it, the rest was to enjoy a couple of days with the Kesaj Tchavé and help organise the AKANAME! festival.

The day after, in order to get a bit of fresh air before what seams to be a long and intense week awaiting, we climb up with a few Kesaj youngsters. The sky is clear and fresh in the mountains

Johann wants to document with sounds his project of Comic Book about the Kesaj Tchavé story

helped by Alan Madec who brought sound recording material to catch gypsy music and ambiances

And me i continue reporting with my video camera the Kesaj Tchavé stories

An intense rehearshal at Margita and Paolo in Kezmarok to be ready for the recording of the end of the week.

Then we go to Lomnica, one of the few townships around Kezmarok, visiting Dusan, who is building an extension on his house. They sleep 6 people in 12 square meter. One more room and a little kitchen corner will give a bit of space.
As always, Dusan's house is full of people. On top of Alan's mic around in the room, it seams to always be place enough to danse, for neighbourgs to pass by and take part of the improvised studio recording. We manage to get silence at the beginning and the end of the songs. Alan is fighting hard to get some A capella recording, but soon the keyboard is getting too tempting, essential part of the gypsy music in Lomnica, it's disco sound takes over and everybody is dansing and singing!

On top of the rehearshals in Kezmarok we manage to arrange with Ziash to come and record at his place, in another township around Kezmarok, Rakusy.
Ziash shows us the violin he is building by himself, with a knife, and of course, soon, the music starts!

Ziash wants us to come and record his band. We change place and go to the wedding/party house of Rakusy. And there goes five hours of Gypsy Disco music recording.

Time is running and already is the last reharshal in Kezmarok! Ivan and Helena press the Youngstersof Kesaj Tchavé to their maximum concentration, songs that were not played with enough sharpness and repeted, but keeping the raw and fully emotionnal energy of the Kesaj Tchavé!

The head full of pictures and music, we cross toward Slovakia again. Slovakia seams under a dark grey, a heavy atmosphere, an economic crise, an outrageous capitalism, advertising that are no longer dared in the west; but with the same goal, empty the pockets of their last kopeks. Crossing Slovakia we see a lot of gypsies, often carrying wood to keep warm in the houses. Despite and the effort we make to support Kesaj Tchavé, the tenacity of Ivan and Helena to hold on this project, despite the many european decision taken upon the condition of the Rom communities, precariousness is growing, expending for these populations, excluded from nearly eveything, in the heart of the european union.

As usual i go away from a visit to the Kesaj Tchavé overwhelmed, filled up with the love their spread ... following the Kesaj fairy that says "in order to receive love you have to be abble to give some", boosted by their music and dance, happy to be abble to grow some true friendships, but also chocked and sad ... when for exemple a kid is hungry because he was not eating the last two days.
